Wild the Tame
“Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.” (Warren Buffett)
In our recent podcast with Prof Dr Ger Graus OBE, he argued that our education system has tamed the wild hearts of our youth, stifling their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. It's time to let them loose.
We can unleash the potential of our young people by adopting a revolutionary approach to learning:
#1: Embrace the chaos and nurture the wild within.
“Don’t try to tame the lion; learn to ride the lion.” (Osho)
Our education systems are notorious for moulding young minds into uniformity. We must encourage them to embrace their individuality and cultivate their unique strengths. They are not a number or a line on a report.
By fostering environments that nurture curiosity, innovation, and exploration, we can stimulate the formation of their identities and help them discover their purpose.
Allow them to challenge the status quo, question the rules, and redefine success on their terms. Our world needs fearless explorers, and our young people need the courage to navigate the wilderness.
#2: Cultivate adaptability, resilience, and a growth mindset.
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent; it is the one most adaptable to change.” (Charles Darwin)
In a rapidly evolving world, the ability to adapt and learn is paramount. We need to equip our youth with the skills necessary to thrive amidst uncertainty. We have long mentioned that the learning evolution needs to be replaced by a revolution - our young people deserve both.
Teach them that failure is not a dead-end but a stepping stone towards success. Foster resilience by encouraging them to view setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning.
Instil in them the importance of lifelong learning, emphasising that their journey does not end with an undergrad degree but continues through a lifetime of self-discovery and personal development.
#3: Encourage collaboration, co-creation, and global citizenship.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” (Helen Keller)
The challenges of the future demand interconnected solutions. We must forge the value of collaboration and the power of collective action.
Inspire them to break free from the confines of competition and engage in co-creation, where they can harness their unique strengths to make a positive impact on the world.
Nurture their sense of global citizenship, urging them to embrace their responsibility towards humanity and the planet.
The time to tame the wild is over. We must set our young people free, allowing them to unleash their limitless potential and blaze their path in the ever-changing world. The future of our society depends on it.
“Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
(Steve Jobs)
